Hope & Ed’s Dorset Wedding

After knowing Hope for the past four years through our work together in the Ambulance Service, being asked to photograph her wedding to Ed was a real privilege. It was even better to see her completely away from work, enjoying a day that was all about her and Ed, surrounded by the people they love.

Their Dorset wedding began with a beautiful church ceremony in Marshwood near Bridport, before everyone headed to a private farm just inside of Devon, for a relaxed, festival-inspired celebration. The setting was perfect for the kind of wedding they had planned, a huge marquee, open fields, plenty of space to relax, and guests arriving in their own camper vans for the weekend. As they had planned a private wedding there were no restrictions or timings.

Thankfully, the weather couldn't have been better. The wedding fell during the current dry spell in the UK, giving us beautiful sunshine throughout the day and allowing everyone to make the most of the outdoor setting. There was a wonderfully laid-back atmosphere, with guests enjoying drinks, music and each other's company while Hope and Ed soaked it all in.

From a photography point of view, it was such a joy to capture. The festival theme, farm setting and brilliant summer light created so many opportunities for natural, candid photographs. Rather than spending the day constantly posing, Hope and Ed were able to enjoy themselves while I documented everything as it happened from the big moments to the little ones that could easily be missed.

Having known Hope for several years, photographing her wedding felt particularly special. Seeing a work colleague become the bride and being trusted to document such an important chapter in her life is something I'll always be grateful for. During this wedding I shot 4 rolls of Kodak Gold film on 35mm, and 2 rolls of Kodak Portra 160. Included in this set I have added a couple of the photos.

Hope and Ed's Dorset wedding was relaxed, personal and full of character, and it was exactly the kind of wedding that makes photographing weddings so enjoyable.
