Majorca & Palma Nova on 35mm Film and Digital.
So, here we go again! Ben is having another attempt at a travel blog, in a dream to think that maybe this would one day be a job, yeah right. But, if not for me it’s a personal gallery where I can display in a nice manner photos from trips that I have been on. If I am honest i’m bored of Instagram, so why am I only ever displaying images there when I have this website? This month I visited Palma Nova in Majorca, and I had an amazing time. I stayed for 4 nights, shot 6 rolls of film, went on 2 excursions, drank 1 mojito and didn’t have time for the pool. All the result a nice deal found via Jet2Holidays that I couldn’t say no to.
Another reason I like to also post galleries like this, is when booking a holiday you’ll only ever be shown photos of the hotels, and it’s hard to get a feel for the local areas. So here I am showing all my best bits from areas such as Palma Nova, Valldemossa, Soller, Sa Calobra, Formentor and a trip to a large market. If you plan on travelling to these areas hopefully this will be a great insight of you can expect to see.

Days 1 and 2.
During our first day ( myself and Ellie ) we were greeted with cloud and light rain, day 2 just cloud, days 3 and 4 the sun came out of course. None the less we made the most of our time in Majorca and got out with our cameras. You’ll see that even on a dull day 35mm film can produce some lovely colours.
We stayed in Palma Nova about 20mins south of Palma where the airport is located, last yearsI stayed on the east coast of the Island and wanted less of a coach transfer and also somewhere bit more built up. After arriving at the hotel we downed our suitcases and went out for the initial expiring walk.
I shot throughout this trip on my Canon-A1 with films such as Kodak UltraMax, Kodak Portra, Kodak Pro Image and Kodak Gold. For my digitals I shot on my Fuji X100f, I shall label all images with what format it was created on below. Again, forgive me if this gallery comes across as long, but it's also my personal space to display my photography other than just with the blandness of social media.

Day 3.
While we were out walking on the second day in Palma Nova we booked ourselves onto some excursions, this was with Lemon Tours and we found their shop on the local high street. This for us was not planned, but we ended up being so glad that we did, or we may not ever left the area so I can highly recommend this when visiting. The tour company was great, some very good coach driving, and the lady on the desk was very re assuring, and timings on the trips were pretty much spot on.
The third day for us we booked on the : Mallorca Grand Tour for €79. This was a full day trip by coach, tram and boat. Along the way stopping at Valldemossa, a village in the mountains known for its stunning views. Also stopping at the famous Sóller with its trams that run through the hustle an and bustle in the square. Finally after a boat ride from Port de Sollar along the coast we arrived at hidden town on the sea at the bottom of the mountains called Sa Calobra. This day was the first day where we had the sun with us, it was around 19 degrees and the holiday feels had finally arrived. This was full day leaving around 9am and getting back to the hotel for around 7pm and it was worth every cent.

Day 4
A popular, full-day excursion in Mallorca combines the vibrant Alcudia Market then for 1.5 hours. Here you can browse stalls selling leather goods, food and even live animals. Alongside the market you can explore the many shops hidden away in the narrow streets. From here we then headed to Puerto Pollensa by coach to jump on board a boat, giving us a 30 minute boat ride into Formentor peninsula. Here we had an hour to explore the super blue waters on Formentor beach, we did consider getting in but with time and it being April it wasn’t as warm as we’d had liked. These were some of the prettiest beaches Ive ever seen. This day trip was actually paced a little slower and cost €57, I found this was better in regard to not feeling as rushed. We got back to the hotel at around 1700 giving us time to chill for an hour and get our evening meal.

Summary
I never expected this gallery to be so big, but maybe I had a good time and got lots of images Im happy with. Overall I preferred the Kodak UltraMax and Kodak Gold, and I felt the Portra 160 and Pro Image didn’t give me results I wanted, this could also be a development issue or just how the images exposed. Thank fully the Fuji X100f travel back up camera saved the day, up until this trip I had become a ‘film only’ person but now I think im leaning both ways.
Majorca is an amazing place, and certainly for photographers.
