Film Nostalgia
Film photography is an experience that many wont dare to choose, but in fact film has taught me far more about photography than any digital camera could. In my spare time I enjoy shooting on my Nikon F3 and Mamiya 645. I took the plunge straight away and started developing my own film at home, using c-41 chemicals.
When you head out with only 36 shots on a roll of 35mm you learn to slow down and think about your shots. This in turn teaches you look and plan, rather than just blatting off hundreds of photos of the same subject. The appreciation for a photography only grows with every roll you re-wind.
Film produces a final image render that no digital camera will create. The colours and the grain are all created by a reaction to light hitting the film emulsion, and not a mathematical equation. The process of shooting could be compared to playing a record on vinyl, its the process, the unique features that modern day technology wont give you.
In this gallery I have displayed some photos I have taken since June 2024, using many types of film. Kodak Gold and ColorPlus. Fuji Superia & Kodak Portra. I am now able with the skills I have learnt to shoot film with my wedding photography, adding that bonus feel to a wedding album. With all of the images here, the colours are what where produced by the film itself, with only minor exposure, highlight and shadow changes.
